Blade Gives Up Effort To Link McCloskey To Noe

Left: Toledo city council rep Bob McCloskey

(Toledo, OH) Despite hundreds of hours of research, editors at the Toledo Blade threw in the proverbial towel in their quest to link embattled Toledo city council rep Bob McCloskey to Tom Noe, the chief figure in numerous local and state scandals.

"We though it was a natural," said Ron Royhab, The Blade's executive editor. "These are the two biggest symbols of corruption in Toledo, and it is amazing that we could not find a way to connect the dots and link them."

McCloskey faces charges that he atempted to extort a bribr from a corporation doing business with the city. In addition, he faces numerous ethical and legal cases surrounding the November 2005 election.

"What are the odds that in a city this size these two ethically-challenged individuals would not have recognized the synergy in combining their forces?" asked Royhab. "Answer: slim to none. But despite our best efforts, we can't even show them bumping into each other at a football game."

Noe is currently under investigation for the Coingate scandal and was also charged in October with money laundering in connection to his political fundraising for President Bush.

Royhab shook his head at the paper's inability to create a story.

"I still can't get over the sense of disappointment," he said. "We have been able to link almost everyone in the city to Tom Noe, and yet linking Toledo's biggest sleazeball to him remains just beyond our grasp."

Comments:
Oh, that connection is there - the Blade has to keep twisting the evidence, that's all.

There are 100's of people in Toledo that can be "tied to Noe" if you equate an introduction, a passing hello, or attendance at a function along with numerous other people.

I'm sure if the Blade wants to it will manufacture some kind of minimal inference that will plant a seed in the minds of Toledoans that wish to think the worst.

While your tale is one of sarcasm, the underlying intent of the Blade is very real.

You forgot that McCloskey is JRB's boy, Noe was not...

Tom & Bob also traveled in different circles, both socially and geographically.

Bob hung out with low-lifes and thugs, while Tom rubbed elbows with and fleeced the more affluent.

Hooda - I beg to differ with you on Bob being JRB's boy. If he was JRB's boy do you think JRB would tear him up over and over again in the local rag?

I don't know if you know Bob personally, but I do and can tell you that while he is not a perfect man (as none of us are) he is also not a ill intentioned individual.

Noe stood a better chance of being JRB's boy than Bob ever did. The whole kicker in all of it is that JRB chose not to even live in Toledo yet he thinks he can call the shots for the city. I think he needs to see how many people in Pittsburgh he can tick off and leave Toledo alone unless he's going to move back here and be part of the citizenry.

Don't know if Bob is a good man or not, but the SOB can sure mix a good boilermaker.

The C-man keeps saying the three of us are going to hook up and shoot out streetlights sometime.

Bob McCloskey is RELATED to John Robinson Block. That is a fact!

Anonymous - you are correct. Bob is related to JRB through marriage.

BUT, that being said, there is no reason that I am aware of as to why JRB would be so consistently vidictive toward Bob.

And Hooda - I know a large number of the folks in Bob's 'circle' and I can't think of one of them that I would classify as low-life or thug. If you can, please enlighten me.

do,

Post to me #1:

”Hooda - I beg to differ with you on Bob being JRB's boy.”
JRB being so pro union and left leaning in HIS influence peddling effort and Bob (D) McCloskey??? Beg to differ if you wish, I have clearly seen the connection that you missed.

” If he was JRB's boy do you think JRB would tear him up over and over again in the local rag?”
JRB isn’t tearing Bob up, he’s throwing people off the track. Obviously, it worked, in your case…

”I don't know if you know Bob personally,” I know him only in passing personally, but I have been following his antics for a while. …but I do and can tell you that while he is not a perfect man (as none of us are)” Agreed! ”…he is also not a ill intentioned individual.” Agreed ;-) No one would call trolling for bribes/kickbacks orinfluence peddling “ill intentioned.” I (sarcasm alert) certainly wouldn’t…

”Noe stood a better chance of being JRB's boy than Bob ever did.” Sure, you’re absolutely right! More cook-aid do?

”The whole kicker in all of it is that JRB chose not to even live in Toledo yet he thinks he can call the shots for the city.” My sources attribute it to paybacks by JRB. He is trying to tear Toledo apart because he couldn’t get a date let alone mate with any Toledo women. (And they say there is a brain-drain in Toledo…)

”I think he needs to see how many people in Pittsburgh he can tick off and leave Toledo alone unless he's going to move back here and be part of the citizenry.

On this, we agree!

”And Hooda - I know a large number of the folks in Bob's 'circle' and I can't think of one of them that I would classify as low-life or thug. If you can, please enlighten me.”

The simple answer:
1. Bob himself.

2. Every/any one else choosing to associate with Bob (business only).

I never tried to characterize his constituents thusly, if that is what you were thinking.

Union types though…

Hooda - I think we are going to have to agree to disagree on this topic. At a later time I may be able to explain why I feel strongly about this whole 'newsworthy' item.

Just keep in mind that sometimes things are not what they seem. And, yes, I keep that in mind each and every day.

I appreciate your candor and willingness to offer an opposing viewpoint. It's what makes things interesting.
